Social media personality turned actor and entrepreneur Kusha Kapila shocked her fans with her drastic weight loss transformation. People took to social media to speculate how she was able to shed a few kilos, from speculations of her using Ozempic to undergoing surgery, Kusha was put under a microscope. Putting an end to all speculation and trolling, Kusha recently shared a candid video where she talked about her weight loss journey.

Taking to her YouTube channel, Kusha Kapila opened up about why she chose to lose weight. She talked about how she had struggled with body image issues when she was young, how she starved to lose weight and gain validation, how she used unsustainable methods to lose weight, and how she was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

In the video, Kusha mentioned how she had forced herself to go on a calorie-deficient diet as she spoke about the unhealthy ways she used to lose weight. She said, “I was consuming only 800-900 calories a day, sometimes even less. Because of this extreme calorie deficit, I lost weight very quickly and dramatically. I didn’t gain muscle, it was just rapid weight loss.” She mentioned how she just ate roti and tomato curry for lunch and dinner. This calorie-deficient diet did more harm than good, as the normal daily calorie intake for a woman is 1,800 to 2,000 calories. This led to multiple health issues, including weakened immunity and abdominal tuberculosis.

What Happens When You Go On An Extreme Calorie-Deficient Diet?

An extreme calorie-deficient diet may promise rapid weight loss on the scale, but it comes at a steep cost. The body goes into survival mode, and it slows down your metabolism to conserve energy, leading to fatigue, muscle loss, and nutrient deficiencies. Hormonal imbalances can affect mood, sleep, and reproductive health, while hunger and cravings intensify, making it harder to stick to the diet. Over time, this approach can backfire, causing weight regain, binge-eating cycles, and damage to both your physical and mental well-being.

Kusha noted how these health issues prompted her to do things differently. She said, “For the first time in my life, I felt like I wanted to lose weight for myself. I told myself – ‘You are by yourself now. You’re responsible for everything that happens in your life. Take care of yourself, because no one else is coming.’”
